Overview
In January 2020, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) launched a public consultation on their proposals for ensuring the appropriate regulation of AI in the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This consultation included two in-person consultations with expert stakeholders, including INQ Data Law, and resulted in the OPC receiving 86 submissions. Following these consultations, the OPC has just released on November 12th, 2020 the document “A Regulatory Framework for AI: Recommendations for PIPEDA Reform” which provides an overview of the OPC’s final recommendations.
